If I felt at the time that I would have to spend the rest of my life having sex with him and only him, I wouldn’t have married him. I would’ve gone out into the world and gallivanted around until I felt like all the sex was out of my system, and I would’ve missed out on sharing my life with the best human being on planet Earth. But in our relationship, we don’t have to get anything out of our systems. Our sex drives are allowed to stick around, to accompany us throughout life, to remain a part of our individual personalities as well as our relationship as a couple. So in that way, I guess we are on fire. But please, don’t assume that we need to be doused.”

Oh, and Internet?
To complete its installation/infection, Flashback.C requires the user to key in the administrator password. On installation, the installer first checks if the following file is found in the system:

/Library/Little Snitch/lsd

Little Snitch is a firewall program for Mac OS X. If the program is found, the installer will skip the rest of its routine and proceed to delete itself.

If you’re using Little Snitch (as I do, and have been for years), basically the only consumer-level OS X outbound firewall software, you’re protected from Flashback because the virus will delete itself if it sees that there is a system in place to alert the user to it’s presence (or rather, that it is trying to connect to the internet).

There’s a special place in hell for services that require a credit card for a free trial.

There’s a special place in hell for services that require a credit card for a free trial.

K-pop for the next half hour waiting for StarCraft 2 GSTL Finals in Las Vegas. #IPL4

K-pop for the next half hour waiting for StarCraft 2 GSTL Finals in Las Vegas. #IPL4

I might actually be able to disconnect from iTunes altogether.
With the rise of Retina displays people are looking for resolution independent alternatives to PNG icons. Some fell in love with font-icons, some are shouting “SVG”. But I’m sorry, if you’re looking for a silver bullet, I’m afraid it doesn’t exist.

A great deep dive into the current strategies used for icons these days. Personally, because of the lack of effects (and their non-CSS/HTML nature) I generally avoid SVGs, but will mix icon fonts and plain-old sprites as it seems appropriate.

The huge spike that started last January was driven by a visual redesign and apparently spurred by the attention given to the service on Data Privacy Day. (via DuckDuckGo Search Traffic Up 227% In 3 Months)

Really impressive that DuckDuckGo has been able to keep up with that traffic spike. Only in the last month have I been testing them as my default search (changing Safari’s default), and results populate very fast. Sometimes even lightning, Google-fast.

Wikidata, the first new project to emerge from theWikimedia Foundation since 2006, is now beginning development. The organization, known best for its user-edited encyclopedia of knowledge Wikipedia, recently announced the new project at February’s Semantic Tech & Business Conference in Berlin, describing Wikidata as new effort to provide a database of knowledge that can be read and edited by humans and machines alike.

There have been other attempts at creating a semantic database built from Wikipedia’s data before – for example, DBpedia, a community effort to extract structured content from Wikipedia and make it available online. The difference is that, with Wikidata, the data won’t just be made available, it will also be made editable by anyone.

The project’s goal in developing a semantic, machine-readable database doesn’t just help push the web forward, it also helps Wikipedia itself. The data will bring all the localized versions of Wikipedia on par with each other in terms of the basic facts they house. Today, the English, German, French and Dutch versions offer the most coverage, with other languages falling much further behind.

Wikidata will also enable users to ask different types of questions, like which of the world’s ten largest cities have a female mayor?, for example. Queries like this are today answered by user-created Wikipedia Lists – that is, manually created structured answers. Wikidata, on the hand, will be able to create these lists automatically.
