To complete its installation/infection, Flashback.C requires the user to key in the administrator password. On installation, the installer first checks if the following file is found in the system:
/Library/Little Snitch/lsd
Little Snitch is a firewall program for Mac OS X. If the program is found, the installer will skip the rest of its routine and proceed to delete itself.
If you’re using Little Snitch (as I do, and have been for years), basically the only consumer-level OS X outbound firewall software, you’re protected from Flashback because the virus will delete itself if it sees that there is a system in place to alert the user to it’s presence (or rather, that it is trying to connect to the internet).
